Summary: Scouting Days 1957.

Title number: 1119
LSA ID: LSA/1560
Description: The film begins with a football match between the 20th and 26th scouting groups, with parents looking on from the sidelines. It continues on the River Thames with views of the scouts boathouse and sea scouts rowing large boat and canoes. At Easter, scouts go to Kingsdown to camp. They are filmed on the train journey there, on a stony beach, felling and grubbing up trees, doing pyrography on leather, and on the train home. More film is taken at an annual sports event, with running races, the long jump, the shot put, hurdles, high jump and the after event showers. The Whitsun holiday sees the scouts at Phasels Wood (in Kings Langley, Hertforshire) where there is rain at camp. The scouts engage in fire making, running an obstacle course, and cooking over fire. Film from Campcraft and Venturecraft Exhibitions include camp and kit inspections, games, awards and a flag raising ceremony. The Jubilee Scout Week includes a ceremonial run: at Fulham Town Hall, the Mayor sends off a group of scouts on bikes. The same week, some senior scouts make a public formation cycling display, and show first aid techniques. The scout's Summer Camp takes place on Jersey and they are filmed on the ferry journey there, at kit and camp inspection, playing games (including tug-o-war, shot put, jumping, an obstacle course and a blindfolded walk). The boys are also filmed examining a hedgehog and engaged in cooking practice and fire making.
