The Library and Museum of freemasonry was founded in 1837 for members of the United Grand Lodge of England. Located at various locations in Great Queen Street after that date, it gained a permanent home in the current Freemasons’ Hall when it opened in 1933. The Library and Museum houses one of the world’s largest collections of books, manuscripts, music and objects relating to freemasonry, mystical or esoteric traditions, fraternal organisations and friendly societies, as well as the archives of the United Grand Lodge of England and its predecessors and associated Masonic charities dating from the early 18th century.
